The Santa Cruz County Symphony was founded in 1958. Under the direction of Maestro Danny Stewart, the organization has grown to become one of the finest orchestras of its size in California, earning frequent critical acclaim. The orchestra musicians are among the finest in the San Francisco Bay Area and the Symphony showcases world-renowned soloists at its concerts. The Santa Cruz County Symphony performs eight classical concerts in its regular season from October to June at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium and the Henry J. Mello Center for the Performing Arts in Watsonville. The Symphony also performs special benefit concerts and a reduced-admission Family Concert. Additionally the Symphony demonstrates its commitment to education each year with its heralded Youth Program, which reaches almost 5,000 elementary students throughout Santa Cruz County each year.
