Have you ever been enlightened by the common words of a friend, a colleague or someone who holds the audience’s attention with a smile – bringing you laughter that makes your stomach ache, and draws a teary eye of happiness for you? These are special moments that capture your imagination. You are about to have one of those moments. We are pleased that René Schlaepfer will be our keynote speaker for the Chamber’s 130th Community Recognition Gala celebration on Oct. 17, 2019 at the Coconut Grove. Are you wondering (out-loud) why the Chamber CEO would ask the Lead Pastor of Twin Lakes Church to be our speaker? There is only one answer to that question; October 17, 2019, is a very special community celebration of our past, the present and why we focus on our future. Oct 17 is also a very important date for those of us who have resided in Santa Cruz County dating back 30 years ago. As on that day — the earth shook our community to the core and changed our community. The 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake is forever etched into our memories. For many in our community, that date provides a humble reminder of how precious we are to each other. How important it is for Santa Cruzans to rise up and stand together in the face of a disaster. Today, we face different challenges for different reasons. René is the right person to share his vision about our community’s past, present and future. He is a humble community leader who will provide an uplifting and inspiring talk. He will make you laugh, smile and evoke emotions that are a part of the fabric of life on the Central Coast.
