Since 1889, the Santa Cruz Area Chamber of Commerce has been committed to promoting the economic vitality and prosperity of Santa Cruz County. Now, in our 130th year of service to Santa Cruz County we still have the same drive and stamina to promote our central coast community. These past couple of weeks have been a showcase of that community spirit. In mid-February, the Santa Cruz Area Chamber joined the Scotts Valley Chamber at a grand opening of the Four Points Sheraton. On display that night the energy in the new hotel was off the charts. A full house of over 250 people enjoyed the merriment (food and beverages) provided by the Sheraton staff. Thank you Four Points Sheraton. This jointly hosted Ribbon Cutting ceremony was successful because of the bridge building and community spirit that was on display between the Santa Cruz County Chamber of Commerce and the Scotts Valley Chamber. Community spirit and community building is an integral part of who we are on the central coast. On a cold breezy Thursday — the last day of February — we outdid ourselves. Six Chambers in our County (Aptos, Capitola/Soquel, Pajaro Valley, San Lorenzo Valley, Santa Cruz Area and Scotts Valley) came together to celebrate the relationship between the arts community and the business community at the Tannery Arts Center. The art studio was filled to the rafters with more than 200 plus people who had made the evening electric. The room was alive with positive energy, blue grass music and food and beverages from local vendors. A special thank you to the chamber executives, their boards and the ambassadors who make our organizations run. And of course thanks to our host, Michelle Williams and Mercedes Lewis and the entire Tannery Arts Center as they were a marvel of community spirit. We must share a vision that a community that works together, networks together and plays together is much stronger and makes a more vibrant place for all of us. The relationships between the non-profit, the business community and our public sector partners shows an unimaginable positive force for the common good of our community. Yes, we know the issues that we all struggle to address in our region. Let’s put them aside for a moment. Our local Businesses are so critical to the economy of our region. When local business thrive the community does too. Yet, it is through the partnerships with our non-profit organizations that makes the Central Coast a great place to call home. One opportunity where you will see this displayed is at the Santa Cruz Area Chamber’s annual county-wide business expo next Wednesday, March 13 from 4pm-7pm at the Coconut Grove. We have another sold-out venue with business organizations and non-profits that represent every sector of Santa Cruz County. All we are missing is YOU — The Chamber's county-wide Business Expo is Santa Cruz County's largest business event and premier opportunity to connect businesses, organizations, and the Santa Cruz County community face-to-face. The Expo's three-hour format at the historic Cocoanut Grove overlooking the Monterey Bay gives Santa Cruzans a chance to learn about the 100+ businesses and nonprofit organizations who introduce their products and services to the more than 1,500 attendees at this popular annual event. Local food companies serve up complimentary samples of their culinary creations. Visitors can meander through the Grand Ballroom, the Bay View Room and Sun Room to visit the exhibitor’s booths and take in the gorgeous views of Monterey Bay. And this event is FREE to attend. Join us and be a part of community building at its best. We promise it will be an event for the memory book. See you next Wednesday at the Coconut Grove.
