It is that time of year where I look for a few more ‘sunny’ days of summer as we approach the upcoming Labor Day holiday. For many Santa Cruz locals, it is back to school time and last minute plans for the holiday are in the works. There will be scores of holiday activities with beach parties and BBQs. But the fate of heart at your Chamber is planning for an array of fall events in the next three months. Your Chamber is in the final stages of planning for our annual community leadership visit. Over the past five months the Chamber team has arranged for a wonderful education exchange to Lake Tahoe. I can’t explain the awe feeling I have each and every time I drive up to the Lake. Since I was a little boy, Lake Tahoe was that special place. If you want to see the lake from a new and different perspective we have a few seats left on the motor coach. Click here to register! The fall season is one of our busiest times, with business after hours events, ribbon cuttings, long time member companies moving their headquarters, not to mention this is an election year which only adds to the calendar. I wanted to give you a quick snapshot of upcoming Chamber events for your ready convenience. August 30 — Ribbon Cutting and Business After Hours hosted by the Hyatt Place: Come join us as we celebrate the one year anniversary of this hotel. September 21 — The Leadership Forum IV: We have an excellent cast of speakers and community leaders that will make you laugh, think, and cry with joy hearing their stories. Still time to catch a seat or better yet, buy a table so you can share the value of this morning session with your colleagues. September 27 — Business After Hours hosted by Lighthouse Bank. This event has become a tradition end-of-summer party. October 2 — Santa Cruz City Council Candidates Forum hosted by our Santa Cruz Warriors at KP Arena. This will be the place to listen and learn why 10 candidates want to represent you on the City Council. Members who pre-register online in advance will receive a free ticket to our Post-Forum Business After Hours hosted downtown at Rosie McCann’s from 5pm-7pm. October 11 — Lunch with State Controller Betty Yee hosted by the Chaminade. Come join us for an engaging conversation and talk by Controller Yee, our Chief Fiscal officer about the state of California’s economy and related economic issues that are important to the business community. October 11 — Ribbon Cutting with Adkison Law: Please join us to celebrate Adkison Law’s 1 year anniversary! Come network, enjoy appetizers and refreshments, and help us celebrate. October 25 — The Santa Cruz Area Chamber is proud each year to award the Santa Cruz Man of the Year, Santa Cruz Woman of the Year, Santa Cruz Business of the Year, and Santa Cruz Organization of the Year to outstanding members of the Santa Cruz County community. We welcome you to be part of this premier Santa Cruz County event where more than 300 people join in the festive evening. On behalf of your Chamber team and our 600 plus members, we look forward to serving the greater Santa Cruz business community with quality events filled with networking opportunities, invaluable content and just plain fun. See you around the county this fall.
