Over 75% of drug overdose deaths involved an opioid, according to the Centers for Disease Control, and if the nasal spray naloxone (aka Narcan®) had been administered, there’s a high chance those overdoses could have been reversed. On Friday, August 30, the public is invited to an International Overdose Awareness Day event on the Watsonville City Plaza, 358 Main St, where free Narcan® will be distributed along with education on how easy it is to use. Over 25 agencies and clinics who support substance use disorders will be on hand with lots of resources, particularly for teens and parents. In addition, attendees will hear powerful accounts from overdose survivors and parents who have lost loved ones – all in an effort to help ensure other families won’t endure the pain of an overdose loss. Interactive activities to remember those we’ve lost to overdose and celebrate overdose survivors will also be available.
