Participate in the exclusive instructor-led 60 minute workout including 20 minutes of SPIN, 20 Minutes of Strength training, and 20 minutes of Yoga (all fitness levels welcome) from 4:00 - 5:00pm - The maximum number of attendees for this will be 24 for the class.

Then take a few minutes to refresh in the changing area and join the networking event.

Not up for the workout? No worries! Join us at 5:15 pm for our traditional Business After Hours format - network, take a tour for those who are curious and check out the facilities.

This workshop will use creative activities including visual arts media to tenderly encourage expression, insight, and growth in a supportive environment. Members will be offered new ways to tell their story, express emotions without words, and feel connected and supported as they creatively honor their grief and loved ones. Jon Haveman is a Principal at Marin Economic Consulting, an economic research and consulting firm specializing in entrepreneurship and local economic development issues. Dr. Haveman is an expert on regional economies and local economic development and on the Bay Area Economy in particular. He is also widely considered one of California’s leading experts on the economics of seaports, goods movement, and international trade policy. Prior to founding Haveman Economic Consulting, Dr. Haveman was the Chief Economist at the Bay Area Council Economic Institute, a founding principal at Beacon Economics, and the Director of the Economy Program at the Public Policy Institute of California. He has been a Senior Economist with the President's Council of Economic Advisers, an Economist with the Federal Trade Commission, and held a faculty position at the Business School at Purdue University. A prolific author, Dr. Haveman has published extensively on local economic development policy, transportation, and security issues at California's seaports, business outsourcing, and trade in technology products. He also has a lengthy record of publishing articles in the areas of labor and international economics and work history related to private asset accumulation. A well-known media commentator, Dr. Haveman has been quoted in The Economist, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Sacramento Bee, and San Jose Mercury News, among many other publications. His radio and television appearances include regular interviews on CBS Channel 5 in San Francisco, and interviews on KCBS AM, KGO AM, and KQED public radio. Dr. Haveman regularly speaks at events across California and has testified at numerous federal and state government hearings on issues related to seaport activity and security, technology trade, and local economic development. Dr. Haveman holds a Ph.D. and Master of Science in Economics from The University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Wisconsin.

Moderator - Lori G. Kletzer serves as the Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She is a professor of economics, and former vice provost and dean for the Division of Graduate Studies. As CP/EVC, Kletzer is the chief academic officer and chief operations officer responsible for fostering excellence in the educational mission of the university.

From 2010 to 2107, Kletzer served as provost and dean of faculty at Colby College from 2010 to 2017. She has been affiliated with UC Santa Cruz since 1992, contributing to campus as chair of the economics department and the Academic Senate chair and vice chair.

Kletzer is a labor economist. She is the author of two books on the impact of trade in manufacturing on employment, jobs, and workers. She has held teaching and research appointments at Williams College, the University of Washington, the Brookings Institution, the Peterson Institute for International Economics and UC Berkeley's Institute for Research on Labor and Employment.

She earned her Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley and her undergraduate degree from Vassar College.

Panelist - Robert Fairlie is Professor of Economics at the University of California, Santa Cruz and Research Associate, National Bureau of Economic Research. His research interests include public policy, entrepreneurship, education, information technology, inequality, labor economics, and immigration. He received his Ph.D. and M.A. from Northwestern University and B.A. with honors from Stanford University. He has held visiting positions at Stanford University, Yale University, UC Berkeley and Australian National University. He has received funding for his research from numerous government agencies and foundations. He has testified to the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Department of Treasury, and the California State Assembly regarding the findings from his research, and received a joint resolution from the California Legislature.

Panelist - Galina Hale is a Professor of Economics at UC Santa Cruz. Previously she served as a Research Advisor at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, and an assistant professor in the economics department of Yale University. Galina's research interests lie in three main areas: understanding patterns of international capital flows, stability of the financial system, and the nexus between ESG sustainability goals and financial system. Galina has published her work in highly rated economics and finance journals. Galina is a director of the CEBRA's IFM program and a co-director of the UCSC Center for Analytical Finance (CAFIN). Galina has been recently working on ways economists can inform policymakers on how to make the food system more sustainable. She serves on editorial boards of a number of Economics journals and on multiple boards and committees in animal welfare and animal agriculture space.

Panelist - Bonnie Lipscomb is the Economic Director for the City of Santa Cruz and the Executive Director of the Successor Agency (former Redevelopment Agency). She has been with the City of Santa Cruz since 2007. Bonnie has 20 years’ experience in economic development and community development, including 17 years in local government working on public/private development projects; most notably in Santa Cruz including the Warriors’ Arena, the Tannery Arts Center, the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center, and the Riverwalk Apartments.

Bonnie is a founding board member of Santa Cruz Works and the Project for Entrepreneurship with the University of California, Santa Cruz. Bonnie is currently also a board member of the Bay Area Development Company, a CDC licensed and regulated 504 lender. Within the last ten years, Bonnie has also served in the capacity as a board member of the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce, past board member and Vice President of Pacific Collegiate School, and board member of the Pacific Collegiate School Foundation. Bonnie has an undergraduate degree from Tulane University and a master’s degree in environmental policy and administration from the University of Michigan.
