About this Event
Calling all foodies and oenophiles! Enjoy an exclusive Friday evening dinner and learning experience on the private nonprofit 1440 Multiversity campus that will leave both your mind and taste buds satisfied.
Join Frank Cates, General Manager of Lester Estate Wines, and Steve Johnson, Lester Estate Wines Brand Ambassador, in the 1440 Teaching Kitchen for an educational wine tasting and discussion, as they present Santa Cruz Mountain varietals from Lester Estate Wines. The Lester Estate sits at 500’ elevation in Corralitos’ Pleasant Valley, just four miles from Monterey Bay. The marine-influenced climate and loamy soils, rich with calcium carbonate from ancient sea beds, lends itself to wines that showcase a slightly richer fruit profile and a highly-sought-after minerality, the signature of cool-climate Chardonnay. Due to extremely limited production, their wines are typically available only directly through Lester Estates so we're thrilled to welcome them to 1440.
Well known for producing a variety of expressions of pinot noir, syrah and chardonnay from a single plot of land, these vines have produced some of Santa Cruz Mountains’ most desired and award-winning wines. Today, these grapes are the sole source of Lester Estate Wines.
Guests of the wine tasting are encouraged to exercise inquiry as Frank and Steve teach the group about the winemaking process, how the wines pair well with locally grown and sourced food, and regional distinctions that make these wines special. Participants will enjoy seasonal small bites and charcuterie before indulging in a savory gourmet dinner by the fire at Kitchen Table, the community dining room at 1440, mindfully prepared by the 1440 Multiversity culinary team.
The Menu
Marsala Braised Chicken, Roasted Garlic Whipped Potato, Corn Bread Crumble, Crispy Sage, Braised Carrot, Wild Mushroom Gravy
Brussel Sprout, Marinated Grilled Onion, Greens
Winter Squash, Pumpkin Seed, Banyuls Reduction
Nutritional Yeast Panisse
Seasonal Soup
Seasonal Dessert
Please note that menu items are subject to change seasonally.

About this Event
Join Sojourners and 1440 Multiversity for an evening conversation and book signing with New York Times bestselling author Jim Wallis and special guests on the ways Jesus speaks directly to the heart of our political, spiritual, and moral crises.
Following dialogue about his book Christ in Crisis (available for purchase at the event) and how faith impacts our engagement with public life, Jim will participate in a panel discussion and audience Q&A alongside best-selling author and Harvard Business School senior fellow Bill George; Rev. Dr. Zina Jacque of the Community Church of Barrington (Illinois); and moderator Rev. Adam Russell Taylor, the executive director of Sojourners. The discussion will include thoughtfully framed questions posed to provide modern-day answers, such as how we live lives of purpose and courage amid a deeply polarized and divided country; what is needed from our global leadership during this time of challenge and opportunity; and what you can do to strengthen and activate your leadership skills to bring about collective, transformative change.
Evening Timeline:
Dinner (for upgraded tickets): 5:30-7:30 pm
Event: 7:30-9:00 pm
Jim Wallis is president and founder of Sojourners in Washington, DC, a non-profit faith-based organization, network, and movement whose mission statement calls for “putting faith into action for social justice.” He is editor-in-chief of Sojourners magazine and website which has a combined print and electronic media readership of more than a quarter-million people, with several million unique visitors to the website, sojo.net, each year. Wallis is a bestselling author, public theologian, national preacher, social activist, and international commentator on ethics and public life. His newest book, Christ in Crisis: Reclaiming Jesus in a Fearful Time articulates the call to a faithful public life and examines the ways in which the American church has misused the name of Jesus.
