The book launch will be Friday, October 18, 250 years to the day after the Portolá Expedition crossed the San Lorenzo River, at Santa Cruz Mission State Historic Park 144 School St, Santa Cruz, from 5:30-7:30pm. This event is free. Enjoy a reading from the book by the author, a discussion of the cover painting by the artist, and light refreshments. Join us for the second annual Water Harvest Festival that will be held on October 20th from 11-3pm at Anna Jean Cummings Park, also known as Blue Ball Park in Soquel. This will be a fun family oriented festival to celebrate our local water resources. Companies and environmental organizations will come together to share their knowledge and resources with engaging activity tents and interactive displays about water. There will be arts and crafts, educational activities, acoustic music, and food trucks. Last year Soquel Creek Water District did bubble printing, the Resource Conservation District hosted a fish printing activity and County Parks made little paper watersheds. The Museum of Discovery ran a water use relay race, Save Our Shores had kids spray rain on the toy watershed model, and the Mid-County Groundwater Agency ran the groundwater flow model. There was also information about trout fishing, animals in our water sheds, water wise landscaping, water purification, rain harvesting, and greywater. The festival is being coordinated by Soquel Creek Water District in partnership with Santa Cruz County Parks, Resource Conservation District of Santa Cruz County and Save Our Shores.

We are looking forward to another fun day of bowling and raising money and awareness. We hope to make this year our most successful yet! Dia de los Muertos Festival brings families together for a celebration and some healthy exercise with a 3K or 5K run. The festival features a diverse line-up of Mexican dance and colorful costumes, special performances, homemade altars (ofrendas), face painting, and foods. A morning 3/5K walk/run along the ocean will kick off the day’s events. Admission to the festival is free after the run. Free parking is available to all festival and run participants. Registration fees are $10 for youth, $35 for adults, families $50 (max 2 adults) and $75 for groups of four. Registration fee includes a tee-shirt, awards, refreshments, and swim pass for Simpkins Swim Club (valid for race day only). Register by Friday, October 11 to receive a t-shirt
