While the upcoming holidays may bring joy to many, others may find the season emotionally challenging. For those in need of healing and comfort, Hospice of Santa Cruz County presents their annual Tree of Lights Ceremony in two locations this year. This popular local tradition will take place on Sunday, December 6th at Hospice Headquarters, 940 Disc Drive in Scotts Valley and on Tuesday, December 8th at Deer Park Plaza (above Deluxe Foods) in Aptos.
“This event offers a unique opportunity for friends and family to share their grief, their memories and their hope with a community who cares and understands,” says Ann Carney Pomper, Executive Director. “There is strength in numbers, and this ceremony, can help to provide some healing during what can be a very difficult season for many people.”
The Tree of Lights is both a remembrance service and a way to raise much needed funds to support Hospice programs. Family and friends are invited to remember and honor loved ones by dedicating a light on the tree. Each light will represent a thoughtful donation made in memory of a loved one, or to celebrate a special relationship.
Funds raised provide hospice care for those who are uninsured or underinsured; community-wide grief support, including children’s programs; Transitions care for those not yet ready for hospice; education and outreach. Hospice of Santa Cruz County is deeply committed to compassionately caring for the dying and their loved ones with medical, emotional, spiritual and practical support.
The community is warmly invited to attend these ceremonies that include music, a quiet reflection and a candle-lighting ceremony. A reception with refreshments will immediately follow. The trees will remain lit during the entire season as a reminder of the love and memories of special people in our lives.
