Itinerary

Day 1: SFO – Lima
Today you’ll arrive in Lima, Peru. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to CASA ANDINA PRIVATE COLLECTION MIRAFLORES HOTEL. Lima, the main gateway into Peru, has long been considered the colonial capital of South America. Founded in 1535 by the Spanish, as their South American capital, Lima was called “the City of Kings” by the Spanish conquistadors. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Lima
This morning, visit the GAMARRA COMMERCIAL EMPORIUM (see page 2). In the afternoon enjoy a city tour. Your tour begins with a drive to the Park of Love in Miraflores, the modern downtown with a view of the Pacific Ocean. The tour then continues to the modern residential suburb of San Isidro, followed by a drive to the colonial area and to the Plaza de Armas where you will see the Government Palace, the Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace and the City Hall. The tour ends with a visit to the XVII century church and cloister of San Francisco, a world cultural heritage. Later visit the Larco Herrera Museum and see the ancient relics and shining treasures of the mighty Incas. (B)

Day 3: Lima / Cuzco / Sacsayhuaman
Early this morning, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Cuzco, the oldest inhabited city in the Western Hemisphere. You will be met upon arrival and transferred to CASA ANDINA PRIVATE COLLECTIONS SACRED VALLEY. Following, you will travel to Pisac to see the ruins of an ancient citadel that once controlled a route connecting the Inca Empire with the Paucartambo River. The panoramas from Pisac are magnificent, offering views of the impressive patchwork effect in the countryside below, which was accomplished by patterned fields and rimmed by vast terracing cut out of solid rock. In the upper section lies the main Sun Temple and above the temple are still more unexcavated ruins and hidden burial sites. Later, visit the market for a taste of colorful local life before you return to Cuzco. (B)

Day 4: Sacred Valley / Machu Picchu / Cuzco by Vistadome train
Travel aboard the Vistadome train from Ollantaytambo to the archeological wonder of Machu Picchu, built in the late 14th century. Machu Picchu was obviously a wellplanned and carefully built city, made up of two clearly different sectors—one agricultural and the other urban. With mountains to one side and a river roaring far below, this solemn fortress is a fascinating remnant of a once-bustling city that was mysteriously abandoned after the middle of the 16th century. Secreted amidst dense jungle vegetation and steep hills, Machu Picchu remained undiscovered by the modern world until 1911. Learn about the many legends and strange truths of these ancient ruins from your local guide. Later return to Cuzco aboard the “Inca Train.” Sip a cup of tea and enjoy panoramic views as the beautiful greenery of the Urubamba Valley rolls by. CASA ANDINA CLASSIC CUZCO PLAZA HOTEL. (BL)

Day 5: Cuzco
Today you will visit the Kenko Ruins, located next to the Sacsayhuaman ruins in the city of Cuzco. It is believed that the Kenko ruins were an ancient ceremonial center for the Incas. Next, visit the Tambomachay Ruins, 4 miles away from Cuzco, and just over half a mile from Puca-Pucara. This is thought to have been one of the favorite resting places of the Incas, but also one of the main defense systems of the Valley of Cuzco. It is also known as Tambo de la Caverna (Cave Roadside Hostelry). Tambomachay was a place for ritual bathing; the high quality of the stonework suggests that its use was possibly restricted to the higher nobility, who used the baths on ceremonial occasions. Continue your drive to Sacsayhuaman Fortress in the Valley of the Incas. (B)

Day 6: Cuzco / Lima by flight
This morning is at leisure. In the afternoon departure transfer to airport for your flight to Lima. Arrive and connect with your flight to SFO. (B)

Day 7: Lima – SFO
