The Honorable Ariadne "Ari" Symons, Superior Court Judge, State of California - Santa Cruz County
Ari is the first elected judge in Santa Cruz County in over 20 years.  She won her seat with over 60% of the vote.  She started her new job as a Superior Court Judge in January, 2009 and presently serves in a criminal courtroom.  She is one of just 10 judges in the county and is only the third woman out of that ten.   

Before becoming a judge, Ari was a prosecutor for almost 25 years.  She was the Chief Deputy in the Santa Cruz County District Attorney's Office and ran the homicide unit.  She has handled over 75 homicides in her career, and tried many murder cases to a jury.  She has never lost a murder case.  Some of the more infamous trials she has handled for Santa Cruz include:  the Kelly Chilcote home invasion murder case and the Wells Fargo take over bank robbery case.
 
Before coming to Santa Cruz, she worked at the U.S. Attorney's Office in Washington D.C. and the Organized Crime and Racketerring Strike Force.  

Holiday "Giving" Recipient
Each luncheon includes a raffle whose proceeds funds the WiB Scholarship and the Holiday "Giving" recipient.  The December Luncheon raffle proceeds are designated to a local non-profit, and we are pleased to announce that this year's recipient is "Project Pajamas". 
In addition to her professional work, Ari Symons has been very active in our community.  She volunteers at many functions and supports many activities.  Most recently, in 2006, she started Project Pajamas, which is dedicated to the ideal of giving a brand new pair of pajamas to every homeless child in our County, on the very first night that they arrive in a shelter.  That situation must be very scary and Project Pajamas is dedicated to making the first night, and successive nights, a little bit warmer and maybe a little less scary.  To date, Project Pajams has donated over 600 pair of pajamas to our community.
Student Recognition Award
In addition to the presence of Ari, we will be presenting the Women In Business Student Recognition Award of the quarter.
Joanna Coker
, a senior at San Lorenzo Valley High school, who was recognized by her teacher Lisa McCloskey has been selected to recieve award based on her excellence in and out of the classroom including a 4.77 GPA and her position as goalie of the SLVHS Varsity Water Polo Team. Her work ethic and ambition make her an ideal canidate for an award higlighting the success of young aspiring women.
