Event Description:

RISING INTERNATIONAL: Your Dog Can Change the World

Fair Trade Craft Sale – July 2nd 11am to 5pm
On the deck in front of Farmer’s Exchange

Rising International, a non-profit organization focused on the empowerment of women by enabling them to leverage the global economy through micro-enterprise, announced today it will showcase a variety of dog collars created by some of the world’ s poorest women at the Your Dog Can Change the World Sale, this Saturday, July 2, 2011. Every collar you buy impacts a life, therefore, bring your dog and find the perfect collar!

Rising International will feature the Zinja Dog Collars created by The Sisonke Women’s Beadwork Co-Operative in South Africa. Each collar is lovingly hand-beaded incorporating traditional African beadwork. This co-operative gives HIV positive mothers the chance to earn a living for their families and improve their quality of life. The purchase of an original dog collar helps them, and all of us pull together in the ongoing fight against HIV and AIDs.

This sale will also feature Hope Wear Dog Collars created by a group of women in Guatemala City. This group of women live in a community called La Esperanza (Hope) because despite a variety of social problems such as gang violence and malnutrition, they have hope that one day, through their hard work, they will be able to rise above it.  Bring your dog and help them out. Crafts from over 20 countries will be featured in addition to the dog collars.

Proceeds from the one-day event will benefit women both locally and globally. Rising International trains under-employed women in the U.S. to run their own Rising International businesses. These local entrepreneurs take pride in earning an income by helping the world’s poorest women.

Rising International’s Your Dog Can Change the World Sale will be held in two locations on Saturday, July 2nd, 11am to 5pm. Stop by 300 Potrero Street, Santa Cruz, CA or bring your dog to the deck in front of Farmers Exchange at 415 River Street, Santa Cruz, CA. Open to the public. Call 831.429.RISE (7473) for details. Or, shop sale items online at www.risinginternational.org at Rising’s online store.
