The Santa Cruz Surfing Museum marks its 25th anniversary Friday with a community celebration at Lighthouse Point. The event will feature a 9-foot surfboard cake by Marina Sousa, coffee from Surf City Coffee, surf music, a surfboard display, and official ceremonies with Mayor Ryan Coonerty and original Santa Cruz Surfing Club member Harry Mayo.
The Santa Cruz Surfing Museum, which opened in 1986, is in the Mark Abbott Memorial Lighthouse and hosts over 45,000 visitors every year. The museum’s exhibits illustrate the history of surfing in North America and the development of surf board design.
