The Ensemble Monterey Chamber Orchestra will combine with the elite vocal ensemble, Cantiamo!, to present their season finale concerts on May 14th and 15th. The concerts will feature two masterworks by George Frideric Handel. His Dixit Dominus, performed with Cantiamo!, is an exquisite setting of Psalm 110 for orchestra, chorus and soloists. One of his boldest masterpieces, it was an early composition meant to impress the world with dazzling virtuosity and compositional brilliance. Ensemble Monterey will also perform Handel’s Concerto Grosso in B flat Major, one of his best loved instrumental works. Cantiamo! will also perform Three Nocturnes, an award-winning new composition for chorus and percussion ensemble by Dan Forrest.
Ensemble Monterey and Cantiamo! present their joint concerts on Saturday, May 14th at the historic Mission Carmel Basilica at 8:30 PM, and on Sunday, May 15th at 7 PM at the First Congregational Church in Santa Cruz. Be sure to join Conductors John and Cheryl Anderson for a pre-concert talk and reception one hour before each concert.
