Event Description:

Desalination vs. Alternatives: A Subject for Debate

Santa Cruz City officials and representatives from Santa Cruz Desal Alternatives will debate building a seawater desalination plant and how best to balance water supply and demand.

Participants in favor of a seawater desalination plant include former Mayor Mike Rotkin and Toby Goddard, City Water Department Conservation Manager. Participants advocating alternatives to a desalination plant include Rick Longinotti, Co-founder of Santa Cruz Desal Alternatives and James Bentley, retired Superintendent of Water Plant and Production for the City of Santa Cruz.

The format will provide time for questions from the audience. Kirsten Liske, Vice President of Ecology Action will be the moderator.

Free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:15 pm. Parking is available at the Church with overflow parking available at the school next door or on the street.

The debate will be recorded by Community Television of Santa Cruz County and cable-cast on later dates.
