Event Description: Drs Steven and Mary Albert are academic filmmakers who focus on the local and natural history of California’s Central Coast. Other films include: The Hermit Crabs of Pacific Grove; The Arch: the Geology of California’s Central Coast; and The Great Tide Pool: the Story of Ed Ricketts’ Scientific System. Big Sur Fog:the Science and the History, examines the science behind coastal fog and tells a forgotten story from Big Sur’s pioneer days. The film uses recent scientific findings on fog to propose a “Big Sur Forest Cycle” and facts from the past to explore fog as a metaphor for human nature. In this unique blending of science and history, we experience what it feels like to be alone, walking, and quietly contemplating life, when the Big Sur Fog rolls in. Q & A session with the filmmakers follows the screening.
