Event Description: The Romero Institute is hosting an event focused on the issue of climate change and women’s empowerment. The goal is raising consciousness about climate change and rallying people about being involved in the movement for a more sustainable, healthy planet. Our event is endorsed by Cowell College. We have an all-women hip-hop lineup because women are shockingly underrepresented in this musical genre. In a climate of popular artists who degrade women and ignore social issues, we want to let students know that there are socially conscious artists who focus on women's empowerment and social justice, including issues of climate change. Hip Hop, a modern fusion of spoken word poetry and musical styles from around the globe, can be a powerful tool to generate and sustain the energy of a movement to counter materialism and empower women. Bottom line, we want to bring the people together, uniting them under a common goal, turning back the tides of climate change.
