Event Description:
The 34th annual award-winning Santa Cruz Greek Festival in Downtown Santa Cruz is the longest running festival in Santa Cruz County, growing from a small celebration in a church courtyard to a huge block party. The air will be filled with lively Greek Bouzouki music and the tantalizing aromas of delicious Greek specialties and many other savory dishes, including a wide variety of vegetarian selections. The Taverna serves beer, Greek wine, and traditional Greek spirits. After dinner, sweet pastries and delicacies include the ever-popular Baklava in its many iterations, as well as golden puffs of fried dough drenched in cinnamon syrup (loukoumades). An expanded delectable dessert menu includes Baklava Cheesecake, Baklava Brownies, and Revani with berries. In the Kafenio in addition to handcrafted Greek coffee, there are authentic Greek Frappes, a chilled drink shaken by hand in the traditional style of cafés and served everywhere in Greece. The Greek Agora includes ethnic jewelry, pottery, clothing and food items. A Kid’s Korner features a climbing wall, trampoline and face painting. Greek Dancers from all over the Bay Area and dressed in traditional costumes perform a variety of folk dances handed down for hundreds of years. This year the Museum of Art & History will showcase a pop up Greek museum and art space for all ages. Bring the whole family and Live Like a Greek for a day! Times vary by day.
