Event Description:
The Human Race Walkathon & Fun Run is the largest collaborative community fundraiser in Santa Cruz County. Last year this event raised over $220,000 for non-profits, schools and churches serving youth, seniors, families and people with disabilities and addressed the environmental, educational, religious, social and arts needs in our community. The Human Race is a proven fundraiser of vital importance to the Santa Cruz County’s network of agencies. This year is its 31st Anniversary making our county’s event the longest continuous running Human Race in the United States. This year we expect to raise over $250,000 for our participating agencies. Funds can be raised for any nonprofit organization, school, or church. The run and walk are open to all. Organizations on their own behalf and supporting businesses recruit walkers, runners, and pledge-gatherers to raise funds for their favorite non-profit organization. Participating nonprofits receive 75% or more of monies collected. The Volunteer Center provides marketing, publicity, materials, and experienced assistance to coordinate and stage the event. Nonprofits and supporting businesses provide the people power.
Directions:
The walkathon and fun run begins and ends at the UC property on the corner of Natural Bridges Drive and Delaware Avenue and winds along beautiful West Cliff Drive to the light house park in Santa Cruz.

Human Race Champion Teams A Champion Team is any group that gathers pledges for a participating nonprofit organization. These teams can be developed through businesses, agencies, clubs, faith based groups, neighborhood groups, schools and or classrooms. CORPORATE CHAMPIONS Corporate Champions can be mom and pop grocery stores, dry cleaners, or your favorite coffee house. Any business, big or small, that is looking to boost employee morale, generate good PR and get involved in the community on a very direct level is a strong Corporate Champion candidate. The best Corporate Champion for your group is a group with which you have already had some contact. Corporate Champions may adopt one or more nonprofit organizations and schools. The most successful Corporate Champions businesses have a Human Race “team captain” who assumes responsibility for the logistics, motivates others to get involved and expresses lots of enthusiasm and energy. INCENTIVES OF THE HUMAN RACE TO CORPORATE CHAMPIONS AND THEIR EMPLOYEES: • Enhanced business and PR opportunity. Customers are proud to do business with a company that cares about the community. • An opportunity for employees to work together for a common cause and give back to the community that has supported their business. It is fun and good for morale. • A chance to learn more about the community’s needs and how they are being met through the many community service organizations in Santa Cruz County. • Public recognition such as thank you listing in local newspaper (return completed business registration form to the Volunteer Center) and special awards at the highly attended Awards Banquet in June for top Corporate Champions.
