Results of the Community Leadership Visit

The Chamber’s third-annual Community Leadership Visit (CLV) focused on strategies Santa Barbara County, it South Coast cities, and UCSB have used to addressed a few keys issues that we in Santa Cruz County share. The Member Luncheon, Wednesday October 15 will present observations on four of these topics including transportation, housing, water and innovation. Several of the focal points in these issues include:

• Successfully developing and promoting a local “self-help” sales tax measure to fund critical transportation maintenance and improvement measures
• Addressing core housing issues including university growth, planning rules that constrain growth, the affordability of housing, and strategies for increasing density.
• Developing a water strategy that provides diversified sources and plans to address long-term droughts.
• Public-private-university partnerships to attract and retain young entrepreneurs.

The program will include brief video excerpts of the presentations in Santa Barbara and will feature four of the CLV participants, experts in these four content areas, who will describe their observations of the CLV content and the lessons they thought most important.

The lunch will also feature brief surveys of lunch attendees and short discussions at each table on the four topics.
