The 123rd  Annual Meeting and Luncheon of the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce

featuring John Davis speaking on

Passion and Principles

Lessons In Community Vitality from Austin, TX

The 2011 Santa Cruz Chamber Board of Directors invites you to attend the Chamber’s 123rd Annual Meeting and Luncheon January 26 at the Cocoanut Grove.

John W. Davis, will talk about the development and redevelopment of Austin, Texas. John believes that the Austin experience provides some interesting grist for conversation about Santa Cruz. Austin has been a city in which:

  • businesses and property owners were hesitant to invest
  • tourism was constrained by its past… and the quality of its hotel and meeting room inventory
  • employers, residents, and tourists shared a desire for a safer, cleaner, more hospitable place
  • residents wanted their downtown and neighborhood retail districts to better-provide for their needs and interests

John will talk about what Austin has done about it. What worked. What didn’t. What they are planning and implementing today to improve their city.

John specializes in using economic modeling to develop marketing and branding strategies. He developed his skills with Fortune 500 companies after earning degrees from the University of Texas and the State University of New York. He has been a founding principal in two businesses using market research methods to help businesses and governments improve their performance. John lives in Santa Cruz but continues to commute to Austin, Texas where he consults and experiences that city’s evolution.

The Annual Luncheon will also introduce the Chamber’s 2011 board and officers, acknowledge retiring board members, recognize sponsors and volunteers, and report on the state of the Chamber.

Reservations required not later than 3 pm, Friday Jan 21
