Cystic Fibrosis is a chronic genetic disease that affects most critically the lungs. Cystic Fibrosis causes thick, sticky mucus to clog the lungs and trap harmful bacteria in airways. These bugs and bacteria can lead to very serious lung problems. Surfing has been found to be beneficial to those suffering from this chronic disease. The crashing waves create a salty mist, and with breathing in this salty misty air, it naturally lubricates the lungs and airways. It can also loosen up the mucus. “Santa Cruz Surfers support many causes but especially take pride in helping kids breathe easier from the surfing lifestyle that has given them so much.” –Bobby Serna, Surf Experience Director
The Mauli Ola Foundation (MOF) was organized to promote education, awareness of genetic diseases and to increase research for genetic disorders. The MOF raises funds to support programs for kids and adults with life-threatening illnesses and disabilities through social events such as music concerts, sports tournaments, galas, and other great events. We want to provide a direct and immediate option for children with genetic disorders an enjoyable and healthy way of life through natural treatments.
