About Bob Gibbs and Gibbs Planning Group (GPG)

GPG is considered one of the foremost urban retail planning consultancies in America. For more than two decades, GPG's expertise in commercial development and sustainable town planning has been sought by some of the most respected mayors, highly regarded architects, and successful real-estate developers in the country.

A recognized leader in the real estate industry, GPG pioneered the development of sustainable and community-oriented principles of Traditional Town Planning and Smart Growth as an antidote to the sprawl of suburbia. Responsible planning, however, is more than assembling coherent urban villages or walkable neighborhoods. GPG believes that sustainable development and vibrant community life are only possible with a vital commercial life, and that new and old towns alike need intelligent strategies for their survival. Since its inception, GPG has been active in developing innovative yet practical methods for applying modern trends in commercial development to more than 300 town centers and historic districts here and abroad.

GPG's retail planning excellence lies in advising public and private sector clients on the psychology of commerce - the practical science of analyzing and adjusting all elements known to affect a shopper's mood in the marketplace. GPG is renowned for applying fundamental retail and merchandising principles for reviving retail in moribund downtowns and for instilling robust commerce in new town centers.

Workshop Featuring Bob Gibbs, Urban Planning Consultant on Retail

Planning & Merchandising for the ‘New’ Consumer

Join us for a morning workshop for retailers on October 15, sponsored by the Chamber and the City Economic Development and Redevelopment Agency and product in cooperation with the Cabrillo Small Business Development Center and the Santa Cruz Downtown Association. Bob Gibbs’s workshop for retailers is an opportunity to learn how others are surviving and thriving in a retail environment that must adapt to great changes in consumer attitudes and expectations.  Trends and projections suggest that there will be a long-term contraction in retail sales. But this reduction will not be spread evenly among the various retail segment or among retailers with in a particular segment.

Gibbs will discuss:

•Simple, inexpensive methods for increasing the sales of your retail store or restaurant
•Dozens of techniques utilized by leading national retailers to adapt to new consumer buying behaviors
•Management and merchandising tips that will improve bottom-line performance

This workshop is Take advantage of this opportunity.

Retail. The segment with the greatest uncertainty is, most likely, retail. The Chamber has joined with the City’s Redevelopment Agency to bring Bob Gibbs back to Santa Cruz. One of the leading retail consultants in the U.S. and a headline speaker at Chamber’s 2009 Business Forum, Gibbs will work with the city and regional merchants during the week of October 11 and will make public his findings at this workshop.

All sales are final
