On Friday, August 17, 2012, Assemblymember Bill Monning and Assemblymember Luis Alejo will co-host a free seminar for seniors about how to avoid becoming a victim of a scam. Incidents of fraud against seniors are on the rise. The seminar will provide information about how to detect and avoid prevalent scams involving home repair fraud, Medicare fraud, insurance fraud, mortgage scams and door-to-door high-pressure sales.
The Senior Scam Stopper Seminar will include a panel of speakers featuring representatives from the Contractors State License Board, a consumer affairs attorney with the Santa Cruz District Attorney's Office and a property crimes detective with the Watsonville Police Department. The seminar is free to attend and open to the public with information provided in English and Spanish.
