The Santa Cruz Mineral and Gem Society’s 60th annual “Treasures of the Earth” show will feature a variety of Jewels, Jade and ancient fossils. Doors open at 10:00 am Saturday and Sunday, April 28rd & 29th 2012, at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium. Children under twelve, and Scouts in uniform, when accompanied by an adult will be admitted free. The $4.00 admission ticket will support the Society’s activities including their scholarship and workshop programs.
There will be several activities for children of all ages. The fluorescent mineral room, a popular glow-in-the-dark black-light special will again be on display.
Family friendly attractions include rock painting, wire wrap bead bracelets, sand painting, and sharks-teeth fossils.
Traditional attractions continue, including the popular treasure wheel, free rock give-away, door prizes, the treasure hunt, and a raffle for a large amethyst crystal formation. In addition there will be a complimentary hands-on demonstrations of soapstone carving, guest speakers, and display cases by local club members and guests from afar!
Attendees will be able to speak with rockhounds and purchase quality items from dealers from throughout the Western states who will have crystals, beads, and fossils for sale as well as lapidary and jewelry making supplies.
