Famous Cyclists to race to Cabrillo College Finish Line and Fair at Cabrillo May 14
The Tour of California, called a “mini Tour de France,” brings famed cyclists from around the world to traverse some of the state’s steepest mountain climbs and what Amgen boasts as “the most spectacular coastline in the world”. An estimated 8,000 people will greet the athletes at the finish line on Cabrillo’s lower campus, while HD video footage of the school and scenic Santa Cruz are broadcast in over 200 countries worldwide. Huge screens and stages at Cabrillo will show the racers climbing over 4,000 feet through the Santa Cruz mountains at the end of their 117 miles journey from San Francisco to Cabrillo College.
Health and Wellness Fair A fair at Cabrillo at the finish line will showcase healthy things kids and families can do together. Local organizer, Maura Noel, is inviting all educational and activity groups centered on active lifestyles and the outdoors to come connect with kids and families. She wants the Health and Wellness fair to integrate roller derby demonstrations, bike tracks for tricksters, hiking and tide pooling information booths plus any other enticing yet healthy activities and organizations into the larger bike race spectacle. The fair will also host a variety of food vendors, making it a destination for everyone at Cabrillo that day.
Schedule of Events The day’s schedule begins with the Health and Wellness fair at 11a.m. (exact location yet to be determined). To minimize traffic around the campus, the event organizers are providing shuttles so that event visitors can park away from Cabrillo. By 4p.m. the cyclists will be finishing by turning left on Soquel Drive from Old San Jose road and then turning right at the Cabrillo lower campus.
