Hidden Valley String Quartet to headline first monthly offering
Santa Cruz, CA -- Bonny Doon Vineyard is excited to announce the debut of its monthly concert series. On Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at 6 PM, the Hidden Valley String Quartet will perform works by Schubert, Mendelssohn and Germaine Tailleferre at the winery’s Cellar Door Cafe, located on the Westside of Santa Cruz. This special evening will include a reception and concert, followed by a three-course wine dinner in the acclaimed Cafe.
Roy Malan is the Artistic Program Director for the Cellar Door Concert Series. He is the Concertmaster for the San Francisco Ballet, a UCSC faculty member, and a member of the Hidden Valley String Quartet. The quartet is comprised of Malan and three San Francisco music industry veterans: violinist Jenny Bifano, violist Darey Rindt, and cellist Vanessa Ruotolo. Currently musicians-in-residence at the Hidden Valley Seminar Center in Carmel, CA, the quartet performs throughout the year, heading the center’s annual string quartet workshop. Commenting on the concert series debut, Bonny Doon Vineyard Founder Randall Grahm explained, “We’ve been honored to support the musical arts for many years. The Cellar Door concert series is a step toward sharing the talents of the Bay Area with our local audience here in Santa Cruz. There’s a synergy in the enjoyment of wine, food and music. It is a powerful way to reinforce community.”
The concerts will be held the first Wednesday of every month. Local Celtic music favorite William Coulter will headline the St. Patrick’s Day concert on March 3, 2010.
