Constitutional Convention Ballot Measures Fact Sheet
Most sweeping of the proposed initiatives to restructure political processes in the state of California is the call for a constitutional convention sponsored by the Bay Area Council. Larry Stone, Santa Clara County Assessor and an advocate for the convention proposal will describe this initiative and its impacts on business at a breakfast briefing January 14.
The Bay Area Council, a business-sponsored, public-policy advocacy organization in the Bay Area, has proposed two ballot measures that would permit the creation of a "limited" constitutional convention focusing on government effectiveness, election and the initiative process, state spending and budgeting, and the relationships between government subdivisions and agencies in California. If adopted, delegates would be selected through a process prescribed by the initiative, the Convention would commence no later than May 20, 2011 and the constitutional reforms would be voted upon no later than the November 2012 general election.
