Court Appointed Special Advocates is a Santa Cruz County non-profit that recruits, trains and professionally supervises volunteers who work one-on-one with children in the foster care, juvenile probation, and/or truancy court systems. Each year volunteer Advocates serve over 200 children, working with schools, therapists, social workers and the courts. Judges rely on Advocates' recommendations in deciding how to best meet the children's needs until they are in safe, permanent homes. More than half of CASA's annual budget comes from fundraising and community donations. Since its inception in 1992, CASA of Santa Cruz County has trained over 1300 volunteer Advocates and served almost 2000 children.

The Foundation raises charitable dollars in support of the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter (SCCAS) and its mission to safeguard and improve the lives of domestic pets. As the county’s sole open-admission facility, SCCAS has a bedrock of municipal funding for core services such as animal control, licensing, rabies vaccinations, and housing for strays and surrenders. Their key preventive efforts, however, require private money. Vital programs such as spay/neuter clinics and outreach to underserved communities are dependent on donations. The Foundation works to ensure that SCCAS has a steady source of private funding to provide program stability and expansion of proven preventive outreach.

Santa Cruz County Veterans Memorial Building, Board of Trustees
Dave Ramos
846 Front Street
Santa Cruz, California 95060
Phone:
(831) 454-0478

The Veterans Memorial Building (SCCVMB) is a historic cornerstone in Santa Cruz, dedicated to serving veterans while welcoming the broader community through a wide range of programs, events, and services.  Built in 1932, it is a historic landmark in downtown Santa Cruz  As a proud 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we operate with a dual mission: supporting local Veterans through direct resources and preserving this storied facility as an accessible, community-centered space.

Supporting Our Veterans: Organization & The Veterans Village

Our Organization

Led by a Board of Trustees (established in 1995), the organization oversees daily operations, community programs, and long-term stewardship of this essential facility.  We work closely with county agencies, local partners, and Veteran-serving organizations to ensure the building remains a reliable hub for support, connection, and outreach.

Veterans Village

As part of our broader mission, the Veterans Village stands as a forward-leaning initiative to provide Permanent Supportive Housing for homeless and at-risk Veterans in Santa Cruz County.  The project offers stable housing, supportive services, and a strong sense of community to help Veterans regain their footing and rebuild their lives with dignity, structure, and long-term stability.

Community Engagement & Impact

The Veterans Memorial Building is more than a venue.  It’s a gathering point for the entire community.  Through weekly service days, resource fairs, cultural events (like art shows and concerts), and collaborative programming, we bring Veterans, families, and local residents together under one roof.  Our work strengthens community ties, expands service capacity, and ensures Veterans remain connected to the support network they’ve earned.  Every dollar spent here directly supports our mission to serve those who served, including funding permanent and supportive housing for homeless Veterans.

Event & Venue Rentals: Reserve Your Space Today!

Our building offers versatile rental opportunities for public and private events like meetings, celebrations, training events, performances, and community gatherings.  With multiple spaces and unique historic features, the Veterans Memorial Building provides an affordable, mission-driven alternative to traditional venues.  Every rental directly supports Veteran services and helps preserve this legacy site for future generations.

Note: Special discounted rates are available for Nonprofits and Veterans.

Weekly (4+ rentals/month) and Monthly (12+ rentals/year) rental packages are also available at a discount.

We believe it should be easy to find out when and where your skills are needed and we are committed to doing the legwork so you don’t have to. Each year we collaborate with over 500 community partners to ensure they are able to recruit and welcome new volunteers and we partner with local businesses that want to invest their resources in building a more connected community. We connect people with volunteer opportunities on the web, by phone or in person via our match-making appointments. We additionally invite every person to be a part of our work through our family of 16 programs.
