Bay Federal Credit Union employees raised $10,581.82 during the month of May in their annual Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) fundraiser. Thanks to a philanthropic match of $10,000 from CO-OP Financial Services, Bay Federal was able to send over $20,000 to Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital Foundation. Bay Federal received CO-OP Financial Services’ Miracle Match in recognition for its creative fundraising methods. Ways in which Bay Federal raised funds included a pie-in-the-face challenge, a tortoise and hare petting zoo and race, and a “Coin Wars” competition to collect pocket change at the Credit Union’s corporate offices. “We’re so grateful for CO-OP Financial Services’ partnership,” said Carrie Birkhofer, President and CEO of Bay Federal. “The Miracle Match kept the excitement up through our entire month-long fundraising campaign, and the money couldn’t go to a more deserving cause.” With administrative costs covered by Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System, 100% of the money raised will be used to help children at the local level. The CMNH program at SVMHS serves sick, injured, and special needs kids in Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito counties. One of the most impactful ways CMNH does so is through its Individual Medical Needs Grants program, which is open to applications from families in any of those counties. For more information, please visit www.svmhfoundation.org. “The Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals program not only helps save lives, it enriches them,” said Mrs. Birkhofer. “Sometimes, an insurance company might not cover the devices or therapies that a child really needs, and that’s when the CMN grant program saves the day.” About Bay Federal Credit Union Bay Federal is a full-service, not-for-profit financial institution that serves more than 70,000 members and 1,200 local businesses throughout Santa Cruz, San Benito, and Monterey counties. About CO-OP Financial Services’ Miracle Match CO-OP Financial Services has helped raise more funds to benefit children by creating the Miracle Match program in 2008. Miracle Match is a $1 million philanthropic matching program that encourages credit unions, leagues, and chapters to create and participate in fundraisers for local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The $10 million dollars contributed by CO-OP since the inception of the program has resulted in almost $20 million in new, incremental funds that have been critical to help advance research, fund expansion of existing facilities, purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment, and cover uncompensated care for those families who are under-insured or have no insurance at all. About Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) is a national charity comprised of 170 hospitals dedicated to raising funds and awareness for the healthcare needs of local kids. Since partnering with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in 1989, our local CMNH Program has raised and contributed over $12 million to support children’s healthcare needs across the Central Coast. 100% of funds donated to CMNH stay local, and are restricted to pediatric needs both in the hospital and across the tri-county area. For more information on our CMNH Program, please visit svmhfoundation.org or cmnhospitals.org.
