Welcome to our fifth installment of our "What Does the Chamber Do for You" series. Last week we discussed one of the Chamber's most important annual programs, the Community Leadership Visit. If you missed last week's edition, you can read it here. If we were to call each individual member of the Santa Cruz Area Chamber and ask why did you join the Chamber? — We would receive a different personal story from each member. The responsibility falls to each Chamber member to ask, “What is the value-added proposition that brings you to the Chamber?” The Chamber is a community unto itself, and the community is a cornerstone of any respected business organization. At the core, the Chamber is a pillar in the community where our work is defined by our ability to promote a more vibrant economic climate. That requires each one of us to engage with public sector colleagues and work with community partners to forge the bond that leads us on a better path. The Chamber is also a resource of information about the region, the cities, neighborhoods and the entire county. We are often the first point of contact for a visitor seeking out information about the region; to identify places to visit, housing options for incoming students — and a host of other questions like: Yes, we are often asked, “Where is the Ocean? Where is downtown? How do I get to the Boardwalk? Where is the University? And our favorites, where is the best place to get a drink or a meal? Of course our answer is to open our directory of members and point them to the plethora of choices. Our members are the eyes and ears of the Chamber. The Chamber’s reputation as a Leader in the community falls on: each one of you, the Chamber's Board, its committees, and Chamber staff to reflect on how we become the best organization for our members. Advocacy is an essential part of that effort. Education is critical to the health and prosperity of Santa Cruz’s economy. Networking and forming valuable connections is integral to our Chamber of Commerce. We invite you, our Chamber members and community, to take this week to reflect and ponder on what you would like to see next from the Chamber, whether it be an event, project or program that you believe can spur the community’s imagination. Please consider "What the Chamber Does for You" and participate in our Member Satisfaction Survey next week to tell us, "What do You Want from Your Chamber?"
