Construction of Measure H 2017 Overlay Project Begins on King Street Today the City of Santa Cruz began construction of the 2017 Overlay Project. This work, funded by Measure H tax dollars, includes rehabilitation of local streets that have experienced significant deterioration at seven locations. Overlay work is expected to end on Dec. 22 in time for the winter holidays. Construction work has begun on King Street north of Bay Street to Mission Street. The additional six project locations are: Escalona Drive from Bay Street to Van Ness Avenue; Natural Bridges Drive from Mission Street Extension to Delaware Avenue; Delaware Avenue from Natural Bridges Drive to about one-half block before Swift Street; Morrissey Boulevard from Fairmount Avenue to Soquel Avenue; Goss Avenue from Market Street to Elk Street; and Market Street from the Highway 1 overpass to Goss Avenue. A map with project locations is available at www.cityofsantacruz.com where the construction schedule will be updated weekly. Project work by Granite Construction will occur on weekdays only from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Intermittent lane closures and limited on-street parking are expected during construction. Sidewalks will occasionally be closed, however, all driveways in the project areas are expected to remain accessible. The cost of the 2017 Overlay Project is approximately $3.7 million, funded by Measure H in the Fiscal Year 2018 Capital Improvement Program. The City apologizes for any inconvenience this construction work may cause and appreciates the public’s cooperation. Any concerns or questions may be addressed to Project Manager Ricardo Valdés, at (831) 420-5198 or RValdes@cityofsantacruz.com.
