SANTA CRUZ (Sept. 19, 2017) — The City of Santa Cruz’s Environmental Compliance Program in association with the California Water Environment Association (Monterey Bay Section) will host the Pollution Prevention Awards 2017 on Thursday, Sept. 21, to honor local and regional businesses who have furthered major environmental stewardship programs including pharmaceutical diversion from water sources and treatment facilities, and reclaiming water for reuse purposes. The invitation-only awards event will recognize the Seaside Company of Santa Cruz and A.W. Shucks Cocktail & Oyster Bar of Carmel for their specific contributions to the healthy and sustainable environment of the Monterey Bay. Eleven businesses in Santa Cruz will also be recognized for consistent compliance in the last five years with the City’s Clean Ocean Business program. Their efforts protect local creeks, the San Lorenzo River and the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary through practices that keep pollutants away from both storm drains and the sewer system.
