Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District to Hold Public Meetings on its Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Proposed Contracting Goal Santa Cruz, California - This month, the Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District (METRO) will be holding Public Meetings to solicit public input on its proposed Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2018 through FFY 2020 Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Goal of 1.93%. Santa Cruz METRO must establish a goal for DBE participation in procurements to be federally funded. A DBE firm is defined as a for-profit “small business concern” that is at least 51 percent owned and controlled by one or more socially and economically disadvantaged individuals. It is the intention of Santa Cruz METRO to create a level playing field on which DBEs can compete fairly for federally-assisted contracts. Santa Cruz METRO staff will be holding a series of three (3) Public Meetings to allow the public to provide input on the proposed Goal and discuss issues facing DBE’s and Small Businesses in the local market. Meetings are scheduled during regular business hours at 11:00 am in both Santa Cruz and Watsonville to allow for a maximum level of input by local businesses. METRO also provides Paratransit service to Santa Cruz County with its ParaCruz service, providing about 98,000 trips per year. METRO’s operating budget in FY17 is $47 million.
