More than 900 volunteers, participants, and family members came together on Saturday July 16th for this year’s Day on the Beach at Cowell Beach - an annual event presented by Shared Adventures. Providing new experiences to the special needs community, Day on the Beach included kayaking, scuba diving, rock climbing and live music with families. (Kevin Johnson - Santa Cruz Sentinel) About Shared Adventures Founded in 1994 by Foster Andersen, a quadriplegic survivor of a spinal cord injury, Shared Adventures has provided hundreds of life-enriching recreational and social activities for people with special needs. According to 2000 Census data, there are over 10,063 individuals ages 16 to 64 with work disabilities, mobility limitations and self-care limitations in Santa Cruz County.
