The Kiwanis Club of Surf City-Santa Cruz recently awarded $1,000 college scholarships to four local high school seniors at each school’s Senior Awards Night. The four graduating seniors were chosen on the basis of several factors, including their academic excellence, community involvement, and leadership. This year's scholarship recipients, and the scholarship that they received based on their selected college majors, are: From Harbor High School, Brianna Lohman - the Melissa Smith Memorial Dance/Drama/Arts Scholarship; from Soquel High School, Gina Szychowski - the Ken & Ruby Marion Memorial Business Scholarship, and Miles Luhn - the Mas Sugimoto Memorial Engineering Scholarship; and from Santa Cruz High School, Kyra Skylark - the Herb Reid Memorial Media/Communications Scholarship. For the past 55 years, the members of the Kiwanis Club of Surf City - Santa Cruz have focused on serving the Santa Cruz community and the many youth services that the club and its foundation support through its various fund raisers and work programs. They meet every Thursday morning at 7 am at the DeLaveaga Golf Lodge in Santa Cruz, and guests are very welcome.
