Mauro Garcia Appointed to Parks and Recreation Director Position Santa Cruz, CA — Santa Cruz City Manager Martín Bernal has announced the appointment of Mauro Garcia to the position of Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Santa Cruz. Mr. Garcia assumed his new position on April 18, 2016. Mr. Garcia brings over 27 years of public service in the parks and community service field that will greatly benefit the City. Prior to his work in Santa Cruz, he served as Public Services Director for the City of Vista and held a variety of increasingly responsible positions with the City of San Diego, including Deputy Parks and Recreation Director. In these positions Mr. Garcia oversaw multi-million dollar operations in parks maintenance, street maintenance, recreational facilities, and capital improvement projects. Mr. Garcia also has extensive experience in organizational development, having served as an Organizational Effectiveness Specialist with the City of San Diego. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from New Mexico State University and a Masters in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of Tulsa. In reviewing Mr. Garcia’s 5-year tenure as Santa Cruz’s Parks Superintendent, City Manager Martín Bernal commented that, “Mauro has been an incredible asset and leader for the whole organization. He’s demonstrated a commitment to improving the user experience at our parks and recreation facilities for all community members. His teamwork, professionalism and community-focus will lead us to a new phase of excellence for the department and City.”
