CONTACT: Brenda McIlroy mcilroyb@santacruzpl.org 831-427-7717 EYES WIDE OPEN: Going Behind the Environmental Headlines Community Brainstorming with Paul Fleischman and the Library FEBRUARY 29, 2016—SANTA CRUZ, CA—The Santa Cruz Public Library System (SCPL), a network of 10 neighborhood library branches throughout Santa Cruz County, today announced a Book-to-Action series of events inviting the community to read, discuss, and take action in pursuit of a sustainable future. Award-winning author, Paul Fleischman, is partnering with the Library, environmental experts from the Coastal Watershed Council & Save Our Shores, and young Santa Cruz County activists to read and discuss EYES WIDE OPEN: Going Behind the Environmental Headlines. According to Paul Fleischman, activism begins at home. For this local author, our changing climate, traffic, and natural assets make Santa Cruz a perfect site for seeing the local in the global. Library Director Janis O’Driscoll says “The Book to Action series of programs is unique in that it takes the discussion topic a step further, asking people to take action that results in positive change for the future.” Free copies of this inspiring book will be available at the kickoff session on March 5th, 1-2pm at the Downtown Branch Library, 224 Church Street in Santa Cruz. The series continues throughout March and April, culminating with the celebration of Earth Day on April 16th.
